Last Thursday, Sgt. Steve Barone from the Hartford Police Department was recorded telling a group of people that he was “a little trigger-happy”. He also, said: “I get paid a ton of money in overtime, if I had to shoot somebody. Don’t do anything stupid”. This kind of behavior is completely unacceptable! We need police officers that are committed to the community, with cultural sensitivity and a strong ethic.
Events like this one, remind us of the power that people have! It is important that Hartford residents speak out and demand the Hartford Police Department more accountability and transparency so behavior like this one does not go unpunished.
Sgt. Steve Barone
Also, today the Court of Common Council will be discussing a resolution to put a moratorium on the use of drones until the use is regulated. The City of Hartford accepted funds from the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, and a portion of those funds will be used to purchase two drones. To guarantee that the drones will be used with responsibility and that police officers will be held accountable, if there's any misuse, we need to draft and approve a new ordinance.
What can you do?
- Participate at the public comment session of our Court of Common Council Meeting at 5:45pm in Council Chambers, 2nd floor of Hartford City Hall at 550 Main St. Every Hartford Resident has the right to speak for 2 minutes, but you do not need to speak; you can also come and stand in support of those who do. All are welcome and appreciated.
